HDI PCB cost depends on the fabrication route, not simply layer or microvia count. Build-up structure, via filling, materials, fine features, panel use and agreed test evidence affect the effort needed to deliver acceptable boards.

Compare quotes on the same stackup, via map, finish, quantity and acceptance scope. Review savings as engineering alternatives supported by revised files and confirmed pricing, not a universal HDI multiplier.

What changes an HDI fabrication quote
These are review questions, not a price tariff. Cost depends on the actual process and commercial conditions. This page does not present an unverified model as current market pricing.

Keep quote scope visible
Place the same baseline next to each proposal. Mark exceptions and obtain clarification before ranking totals. Relaxed construction or missing test records make prices non-equivalent.

Example: reducing complexity needs a full comparison
Illustrative review: a 2+N+2 proposal has stacked vias in one dense region. Ask whether a staggered option or different escape arrangement meets the same routing and electrical requirements. If it also changes area, layer count or signal constraints, compare those effects. Only a reviewed alternative and new quote establish whether total cost improves.
What a useful budget can do
Organize scope as preparation/tooling + recurring fabrication + required tests/records + agreed logistics. Separate assembly and components if included. Questions before you release the files
Is HDI priced only by layer count?
No. Via structure, build-up, material, geometry and verification differ between boards with the same layer count.
Can I remove reliability tests to lower price?
Change requirements only through the authorized engineering and quality process. Preserve the evidence needed for the application.
Why no guaranteed dollar-per-board price?
Reliable pricing needs actual files, quantity, construction and current supplier conditions. A universal price would be misleading.
